It’s been over 25 years since the first wave of poker-based casino table games made its way across Las Vegas. One of the earliest and most successful casino games of the time was something called Let It Ride. Introduced by Shuffle Master founder John Breeding as a way to drum up business for his card-shuffling machines, Let It Ride games was an instant hit, spreading across the United States and sending Shuffle Master stock through the roof.
Sadly, chances are you won’t find Let It Ride games today at your local casino. But you’ll find an even more fun game version called Let ‘Em Ride on the menu at Slots.lv's online casino. The simplified game play and the added progressive jackpot have made this game even more popular with players of all kinds, including the high-roller set. Our latest online casino table games guide will show you how to get in the game, explaining everything from the easy-to-follow Let ‘Em Ride game rules to the optimal strategy for getting max value out of your sessions.
Let ‘Em Ride poker table game is based on one of the oldest poker games in the book: Five-Card Stud. This is the original stud poker variant, played by soldiers during the American Civil War – and still popular today in poker-hungry countries like Finland. If you’re not familiar with Five-Card Stud, don’t worry: Let ‘Em Ride is a stripped-down casino version that can be learned in minutes.
There are no opponents to worry about when you play Let ‘Em Ride online at Slots.lv casino. The object of the casino game is to make the best five-card poker hand possible, using the standard 52-card play deck. If you make at least a Pair of Tens, you’ll win a casino prize. And if you opt into the online progressive jackpot for just $1 and make at least a Flush, you’ll win another casino prize – possibly even five or six figures.
In case you’re not familiar with the standard poker table hand rankings, here are all the winning hands for online Let ‘Em Ride, starting with the most powerful hand at the top and ending with the prerequisite Pair of Tens or better:
Royal Flush: Ace through Ten suited (Ah-Kh-Qh-Jh-Th)
Straight Flush: Five consecutive suited cards (Ts-9s-8s-7s-6s)
Four of a Kind: Four cards of the same rank (7s-7c-7h-7d-2c)
Full House: Three cards of one rank, plus two cards of a second rank (Ts-Td-Th-4s-4h)
Flush: Five suited cards (Ac-Jc-7c-5c-2c)
Straight: Five consecutive cards (7d-6c-5h-4h-3c)
Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank (Qs-Qd-Qc-7d-9h)
Two Pair: Two cards of one rank, plus two cards of a second rank (Ad-Ac-8s-8h-2c)
Pair of Tens or Better: Two cards Ten or better of the same rank (Ts-Tc-9d-6d-4c)
Every online casino game of Let ‘Em Ride starts when you place your Ante bet, using the virtual chips provided; $1 is the minimum bet, and $500 is the maximum. Once you place your Ante, hit the Deal button to receive your first three play cards, face-up. If you like what you’ve got so far, hit the Raise button to match your Ante bet, or hit Continue to see the next card for free. After the fourth card is dealt face-up, you’ll have the same two options: Raise, or Continue. Then the fifth card is dealt, and if you have at least a Pair of Tens, you win. It’s as simple as that.
The better poker table play hands you make in Let ‘Em Ride, the higher your money prize will be. The following list shows the money payouts for each of the winning poker hands:
Royal Flush 1000/1
Straight Flush 200/1
Four of a Kind 50/1
Full House 11/1
Flush 8/1
Straight 5/1
Three of a Kind 3/1
Two Pair 2/1
Pair of Tens or Better 1/1
Those are some nice online payouts, but if you’re going for the big one, the progressive jackpot in Let ‘Em Ride can deliver life-changing money for just $1. This poker jackpot gets bigger with every hand that’s dealt, until someone finally wins it all – then it resets and starts building again. Here are the poker payouts:
Royal Flush 100% of the jackpot
Straight Flush 10% of the jackpot
Four of a Kind $500
Full House $100
Flush $75
Because there are no other players to worry about, the optimal online strategy for Let ‘Em Ride isn’t too difficult to figure out – if you focus specifically on the main poker game, and not the progressive jackpot. Here are all the times when you should hit the Raise button after you’ve been dealt your first three cards:
If your first three cards don’t match any of these criteria, hit the Continue button instead. Then you’ll get your fourth card, after which you should Raise if you have any of the following:
An “open-ended” Straight draw (OESD) means you can complete your Straight two different ways; in the given example, either a Jack or a Six will give you a winning hand. You could also Raise with an OESD even if you don’t have a Ten or better in your hand, but you’ll only break even with those draws in the long run, so it doesn’t really matter whether you Raise or Continue. You can do the same with an “inside” Straight draw (aka “gutshot”), provided all four of your cards are Ten or better.
Using this Let ‘Em Ride strategy will narrow the house edge all the way down to 3.51%, which is lower than what you’ll find for games of pure chance like American Roulette (5.26%). The progressive jackpot does change the math a bit, though. In theory, you can opt in for $1 by clicking the big red button and have a positive expected return – if the jackpot climbs high enough. But it will have to get very big for that to happen, and because it’s so rare to hit a Royal Flush (649,740/1 when dealt five cards), it could take several lifetimes to see that return on your investment.
That’s why we encourage you to only play Let ‘Em Ride for entertainment, and not as a way to make money. This can be a very fun game to play once you know the basic rules and strategy. To get the most entertainment value out of your sessions, size your bets appropriately, so you can play as long as you like without compromising your bankroll. Try aiming for a certain desired session length, maybe an hour or so, and work out how many hands of Let ‘Em Ride you can expect to play during that session. Do the math with that number and the house edge to determine what your bet size should be, given your bankroll and how long you want to play.
Once you have your Let ‘Em Ride session planned out, make sure to stick with your calculated bet size for every hand. It may be tempting to bump up your bet size when you’re on a bad run of cards, hoping to recoup your losses; the same temptation can arise when you’re on a rush and winning every hand. But increasing your bet will only lower your chances of extending your session. Keep betting the same amount, and either end your session on schedule or quit early if you’ve had enough fun for now. The next game will always be waiting for you at Slots.lv.
As you can see, Let ‘Em Ride is one of the easiest games you’ll find at the casino – making it a great choice for first-time players. If you haven’t tried any of the poker-based games at Slots.lv, consider starting with Let ‘Em Ride and Tri Card Poker, then give Caribbean Stud Poker, Caribbean Hold’em and Pai Gow Poker a try.
